Senior journalist shot dead

Taking to her official Twitter handle, Siddiqui said “I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad today, as per police he was shot in Kenya.”Senior journalist Arshad Sharif died of an alleged gunshot wound in the Kenyan city of Nairobi, his wife Jawaria Siddiqui confirmed early Monday. Arshad Sharif was awarded the Pride of Performance.

According to ARY News, police in Kenya have launched an investigation into the attack on Sharif’s murder. Arshad Sharif has worked in various newsrooms of the country and was awarded Pride of Performance by President Arif Alvi in ​​March 2019.

He is survived by his wife and five children. Earlier this year, a round of mysterious First Information Reports (FIRs) surfaced against journalists – Arshad Sharif, Sabir Shakir and Sami Ibrahim – accusing them of sedition and “anti-state” narratives.

Many FIRs were registered

Cases with similar patterns and complaints were registered with the police against journalists in several districts of Sindh and Balochistan.

FIRs filed by residents of several districts alleged that the journalists were inciting anti-national sentiments by defaming the Pakistani army and government institutions.

A case was registered against the then anchor of ARY News, Arshad Sharif, in Hyderabad’s B-section police station.
