Arshad Sharif was awarded the Pride of Performance.
According to ARY News, police in Kenya have launched an investigation into the attack on Sharif’s murder. Arshad Sharif has worked in various newsrooms of the country and was awarded Pride of Performance by President Arif Alvi in March 2019.
He is survived by his wife and five children. Earlier this year, a round of mysterious First Information Reports (FIRs) surfaced against journalists – Arshad Sharif, Sabir Shakir and Sami Ibrahim – accusing them of sedition and “anti-state” narratives.
Many FIRs were registered
Cases with similar patterns and complaints were registered with the police against journalists in several districts of Sindh and Balochistan.
FIRs filed by residents of several districts alleged that the journalists were inciting anti-national sentiments by defaming the Pakistani army and government institutions.
A case was registered against the then anchor of ARY News, Arshad Sharif, in Hyderabad’s B-section police station.
