Big move for International students by Canadian government, these restrictions have been removed

Accepting the long-standing demand of international students, Canada’s  Minister of immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced today that for students 20-hour-per-week work limit has been temporarily lifted and eligible post-secondary students will be permitted to work off-campus during class sessions.

The decision will come into force from November 15, 2022 and will continue till December 31, 2023. Accordingly, international students who are in Canada and have the right to work off-campus on a study permit will be exempt from the 20-hour-per-week rule.

Foreign students who have already applied for a study permit will also be able to take advantage of this short term change, provided their application is approved.

Immigration Minister of Canada said ,”This would provide a greater opportunity for all international students to gain valuable work experience in Canada and increase the availability of workers to sustain Canada’s growth post-pandemic.”

Canadian immigration minister also added that there are currently more than 500,000 international students in Canada who are potentially available to work overtime and this temporary change could play an important role in scarcity of labourer while international students continue their studies. .
