Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has been elected as the new national president of the party. After nearly 24 years, a leader from outside the Gandhi family was elected as the president of the country’s oldest party. Voting for the post of Congress President was held on October 17. This time the contest was between senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor. In which Mallikarjun Kharge was successful in defeating Shashi Tharoor.

According to media reports, Mallikarjun Kharge got 7,897 votes, while Shashi Tharoor got 1,072 votes.
