The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested Bhagirth Roy, the former president of Sangrur District Municipal Council Sunam, on the charge of embezzling government funds during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state.
Expressing this here today, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the bureau conducted a thorough investigation into the fund scam in the Municipal Council Sunam, during which it was found that Bhagirth Roy had prepared fake bills for the repair of his official vehicle.
Apart from this, during his two terms in office, he did not properly implement the advertisement policy as per the instructions issued by the state government in the municipal council, due to which the government exchequer suffered a financial loss of about 4 lakh rupees.
The spokesperson further said that further action is being taken by registering a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Patiala.
