Deposit of last installment of Rs 75 crore in the accounts of concerned farmers
The Chief Minister reiterated his firm commitment to protect the interests of farmer
Fulfilling another promise made to sugarcane farmers, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday released all dues of sugarcane farmers and deposited Rs 75 crore as the last installment in their accounts.
Giving details, the Chief Minister said that the state government has released Rs 75 crore as payment to the sugarcane farmers on Wednesday i.e. September 7, 2022 through Sugarfed, Punjab.
He said that this amount has been deposited in the accounts of the concerned cultivators on Thursday, September 8. Bhagwant Mann said that after this payment, the sugarcane cultivators towards Ajnala, Batala, Budhewal, Bhogpur, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Morinda, Nakodar and Nawanshahr have no balance left.
The Chief Minister further said that these arrears are related to threshing season 2021-22 and all dues of farmers have been released for the first time. He said that with this payment of Rs 75 crore, the cooperative sugar mills of the state have paid all the dues of the sugarcane farmers.
Bhagwant Mann said that till now the payment of 619.62 crore rupees has been made to the sugarcane farmers and nothing is owed to the farmers at present.
Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to protect the interests of farmers, the Chief Minister said that the state government is leaving no stone unturned for this.
He said that continuous efforts are being made to make agriculture a profitable business by increasing the income of farmers through crop diversification.
Bhagwant Mann said that his government is making sincere efforts to ensure that there is no such unnecessary delay in the upcoming sugarcane season of 2022-23 and farmers get their produce payment on time.
